Thierry Lahaye was awarded the Louis Armand prize 2009 by the French Academy of Sciences
On Novembre 24th, 2009, during the "Séance solennelle" of the French academy of sciences, Thierry Lahaye was awarded the 2009 Louis Armand prize.

Le Prix est décerné à Thierry Lahaye, chargé de recherche au CNRS, Laboratoire Collisions, Agrégats, Réactivité à l’Université Paul Sabatier de Toulouse. Lors d’un séjour postdoctoral très fructueux dans le groupe du professeur Pfau à Stuttgart, Thierry Lahaye a pu réaliser, avec des atomes de Chrome ultra-froids, le premier gaz quantique purement dipolaire. Ses études pionnières ont confirmé qu’un tel système devrait présenter des propriétés très originales, comme des études théoriques le laissaient penser.
The Prize is awarded to Thierry Lahaye, CNRS researcher at the "Laboratoire Collisions, Agrégats, Réactivité" of Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse. During a very sucessful post-doctoral stay in the group of Prof. Pfau in Stuttgart, Thierry Lahaye has been able to realize, using ultracold chromium atoms, the first purely dipolar quantum gas. His pioneering studies have confirmed that such a system displays very original properties, as theoretical studies had suggested.
